About Clement

Joel Gaydos grew up in the nursery industry and has been actively working in the trade for thirty years. After five years as a landscaper and garden designer, two as a garden center troubleshooter, and five more as a live goods purchaser, Joel spent the first decade of the 2000s as a sales agent for a nationally known container nursery. This depth of experience and longstanding connections not only help Joel empathize with customers, but also help him better understand their specific wants and needs.

Clement Horticulture started in 2011, when Joel recognized a void of thoughtful, comprehensive plant buying opportunities that are fair and profitable for all parties involved. The company is named for Joel’s father, Clement J. Gaydos, a respected figure in the American horticulture industry from 1974 until his retirement in 1999. Christine Matiash joined the company in 2012 when industry-wide plant shortages proved challenging and Clement grew as a result. Since then, she has taken over myriad responsibilities, and is now paramount to sales, shipping, office systems, troubleshooting and most other aspects of the business. Don’t be surprised if your first email arrives from Christine at 7am, and the last comes in at midnight.

Lazarus (AKA Larry)  is the company cat whose ever-growing appetite makes it necessary for us to sell more plants every year to keep him satiated.
